Trip to Indo-China Border
Route: Martam Village Homestay – Gangtok – Tsomgo Lake – Nathu-La – Baba Mandir – Back to Martam
Martam is a good place for acclimatisation before you set off to the Indo-China border at Nathu-La over 12,000 feet. On the way you can take a yak safari around Tsomgo Lake, or drive along the alpine landscape towards Baba Mandir built in memory of Harbhajan Singh, an Indian Army sepoy who disappeared on border patrol in the 1960s.

Religious Visit
Route: Martam Village Homestay – Temi Tea Garden – Char Dham, Namchi – Samdruptse – Tathagata Tsal (Buddha Park), Rabong – Back to Martam
Pick the scenic Temi Tea Garden road to Char Dham, Namchi, where the replicas of all the four dhams of India are located in one place along with a huge statue of Lord Shiva and 12 Jyotirlingas. On the way back, visit Samdruptse to see a huge statue of Guru Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim, and to Rabong for a darshan of Tathagata Tsal, which features a statue of Lord Buddha and frescoes depicting various lives of the Buddha.

If you like a bit of noise and get a taste of city life in mountain, take a day’s trip to Gangtok, where you can not only take a stroll at the car-free MG Marg or shop for crafts at Handicraft & Handloom Centre or at Lall Bazaar but can also visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, a renowned Buddhist research and study centre.
